How to Play Ladder Golf

Official Rules of Ladder Golf

· Mark a throw line 5 metres away from the ladder (or 5 paces).
· Each team starts a round with three bolas (2 golf balls connected by a rope).
· The aim of the game is to wrap your bolas around the rungs of the ladder to score points. Points are determined by which rung your bola wraps around. The top rung is worth 3 points, middle rung 2 points and the bottom rung is worth 1 point. Teams score a bonus of 1 point by hanging all 3 bolas from the same rung or by hanging a bola on all 3 rungs (1-2-3) in one round.
· The team to start the game is decided by the toss of a coin. The winner of each round starts the next round.
· Teams alternate turns throwing a bola at the ladder until all 3 bolas from both teams have been thrown.
· Scores are tallied at the end of each round.
· Players can knock their opponent’s bolas off a rung during game play. Only bolas left hanging at the end of each round score points.
· How to win: A team must be the first to reach a total of exactly 21 points at the completion of a round. If the team goes over the exact 21 point total, that teams points for that round do not count.
· In the case of a tie, the teams that tie will play as many extra rounds as needed until one team ends a complete round 2 or more points ahead of their opponent.
· Up to 6 players can play at once. 1 on 1, 2 on 2, or 3 on 3 players. Extra bolas can also be purchased so up to four players can play individually on a ladder.

Etiquette of the Game:

Basic etiquette of Ladder Golf states that contestants should make as many remarks, sounds or movements as possible during play in order to distract the opponent’s during play. Touching the player during tossing is never allowed.

In the course of play no contestant is to walk to the ladder prior to completion of the current round of play.
Drinking Game Rules of Ladder Golf

Ladder Golf was Voted the 'Best Beer in Hand Game" in the USA by GQ magazine.

Please note: drinking beer or alcohol is not a requirement in the standard version of this game.

These rule variations are suggested for adults only. We encourage all players to drink responsibily.

Points equal drinks

The game is played as per the standard rules above with the following drinking penalaties applied.

At the end of each round points are tallied for both teams. Drinks are then allocated using a subtractive system. If Team A score 9 points in a round and Team B only scores 7 points then each player on Team B must consume two mouthfulls of beer (9 points - 7 points = 2 points/2 drinks).

First passed the mark

The game is played as per the standard rules above with the following drinking penalaties applied.

Drinking takes place at the 7, 14, and 21 point marks.
Whichever team reaches the point mark first, the opposing team will consume a full cup, stubbie or can of beer.
If both teams surpass a point mark on the same turn whichever team passes the point mark by the least amount will consume a beer.
In the event that both teams surpass the point mark by the same amount, no drinks will be consumed, and the next point mark will jackpot to two beers for each opponent on the losing team.
Ladder Golf Testimonials

Education -

"My students love this game. It is simple, fun, easy to teach, and easy to set up. As a PE teacher, I look for games that every student can play and enjoy, especially games that equalize abilities. With Ladder Golf, things like student skills, injuries, or physical handicaps do not prevent students from being active with this game and enjoying some competitiveness. I also love the versatility of the game in that it can be played in a big or small space; it is portable; it can be played in a short period of time or stretched out for an entire period; and it can be played by young and old. It has been a fun game to add to our PE curriculum!"

"I use Ladder Golf for extracurricular activities like Grandparents' Day, Dads and Donuts, School Carnivals, Rainy-Day/covered area recess and class room activities and also party reward times. The game is something new that kids can teach adults and it's not too intimidating to participate in casually if you're a guest. It is a great recreational activity that young and old can enjoy together."

Diversional Therapy -

"This game has been a major hit at the nursing homes I work in. As a Diversional Therapist I am always looking for ways to entertain a variety of people with various physical abilities. Ladder Golf is perfect as there are very few barriers to being able to play. The game can be played standing or sitting in a wheelchair. Our guests love having a competitive activity to focus on. They enjoy competing against each other and also enjoy playing against their grandchildren whenever they come to visit. The game improves hand eye co-ordination and many of our guests tell me that they are eagerly awaiting our next Ladder Golf session"

After School Care -

"As an after school carer, we are required to have a number of educational games that help develop kid's perceptual motor skills. This game ticks all the boxes. It also helps with the children's maths/addition skills as the children are constantly adding up each others score."
